BEIRUT, July 14 -- Israeli forces on Friday bombarded several strategic
installations in Beirut's southern suburb where Hezbollah has its
headquarters, Lebanese security sources said.

Sources said Israeli warplanes launched at least nine strikes in the
Shiite Muslim suburb, bombing an electricity plant, a bridge nearby and a
main highway to Beirut's international airport, which has been closed due
to an Israeli air strike on its runways Thursday morning.

The fuel reservoirs of the power station in Jiyeh, about 25 km south of
Beirut, was hit by missiles and erupted in flames, Lebanese Future TV
showed.

Anti-aircraft fire from the ground echoed in other suburbs of Beirut as
the planes circled over the Lebanese capital.

There was no immediate word on casualties.

Israeli forces made the strikes shortly after it blockaded the main
highway linking Beirut to Damascus.

Israeli forces have been attacking Lebanon for two days, targeting
strategic installations, bridges, army bases and roads, since the
Lebanese Hezbollah militia launched a cross-border raid on Wednesday
morning, killing three Israeli soldiers and capturing two others.
