Nigerian police kill six robbery suspects in eastern Taraba state

LAGOS -- Six armed robbery suspects were killed on the Wukari-Jalingo
Road on Wednesday during a gun battle with a combined team of police and
a vigilance group, the police said on Thursday in Jalingo, Nigeria's
eastern Taraba State capital.
Solomon Isa, the police public relations officer for Taraba State
Command, said that the team arrested the gang leader, whose name remained
unknown by now.
Isa said the team also arrested a man, who allegedly supplied weapons to
the gang and recovered two AK 47 riffles, one G3 riffle, a pistol and 120
rounds of ammunition in his hiding place.
The police officer assured the public that the police team would continue
to patrol the southern area of Taraba in order to rid the area of robbers.
Robbery cases are increasingly seen in Nigeria's local media reports in
recent months. The Nigerian government has been said to strengthen its
anti-robbery police forces accordingly.
